MkVII Mars Pattern Lascannon

Ah, the humble lascannon. You know it and you love it. Arguably one of the best anti-tank options Imperial Guard or Marine armies have available, with more power than a missile launcher and more range than a melta. Also, for dedicated anti-air flyers, the lascannon is usually the best choice. The one here is the pattern issued to Space Marine tactical and devastator squads.

I’ll admit I hadn’t really planned on doing heavy weapons. In my opinion the big stuff isn’t quite as varied in design as the small arms, not as open to customization and personalization, and not quite as interesting as a result. When noted me with a query as to whether or not I would be doing a lascannon design, I was just about to type a polite “no” in response before I stopped and thought, well, why not? It’s been a while since my last design and working on a big one like this would be a good way to get back into the swing of things. So I just sat down and got to work.

Fun fact, there were virtually no good reference images I could use for this thing, beyond the one ripped from Codex Space Marines and the handful of model photos I could find, none of which had a good view of the left-side scope assembly. To get this thing finished to my standards I actually had to just order a Space Marine Devastator Squad off Ebay (as my fledgling army didn’t have any yet anyway) so that I could examine the model with my own eyes.

Ultimately, I’m pretty satisfied with how this turned out, and at this rate I might go on and do the other heavy weapons as well.
